Performance at the Temple
Yogenji Temple “Shamisen”
Yogenji Temple, a Zen temple of the Myoshinji School of Rinzai Zen Buddhism, was founded in 1616 by Inaba Masakatsu, the eldest son of Kasuga-no-Tsubone. Inaba Masakatsu’s mother was Kasuga-no-Tsubone, and the priest to whom Kasuga-no-Tsubone was devoted was Shugaku, which is why the temple was founded by him.
Yogenji Temple suddenly appears in a residential area of Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo. Surrounded by trees, the site looks like a small forest. Please enjoy a Tsugaru shamisen performance at Yogenji Temple, where the autumn insects are chirping. While feeling somewhat intimidated by the temple at night, the sound of the Tsugaru shamisen harmonizing with the sound of insects is an aesthetically pleasing experience that is uniquely Japanese.
